aight y'all, i got ideas buckle up.

au where bill is just a chaotic neutral cryptid monster thing that's haunted gravity falls since its existence.

i imagine he'd be this shapeshifting lizard/snake thing rather than just a triangle. one of those creatures that can shapeshift into something that vaguely resembles a human but is still so wrong and freaky and monstrous.

he's not explicitly dangerous unless provoked, most of the horror stories the locals have of him come from him being bored and messing with people for funsies

ford hears about him and immediately invested and starts looking into it and trying to find him because of course he does.

bill sees fords efforts and gets curious about him and his lack of fear (or self preservation) and starts watching him more closely. at some point they do meet face to face and ford isnt scared in the slightest, hes bursting with excitement instead and trying and failing to contain it. the interaction doesnt last long and no words are said but ford is ecstatic and bill is even more curious about this odd guy

they end up slowly becoming buddies in a weird way, everytime ford is out on his walks in the woods he knows that bill is watching him, ford eventually starts talking to him, airing out his thought processes and rambling about nothing- bill never says anything back but he enjoys being included.

theres a moment where ford just sits to take some notes and bill lazes in a tree in his view, watching him, ford takes the opportunity to sketch him. when its done he shows bill, who seems pleasantly satisfied with how it looks

at some point during the cold months, bill starts coming in fords house. ford hears the thumps in the night and sees silhouettes in the shadows but doesnt mind. he starts to leave snacks out at night and finds them gone in the morning. bill in turn leaves "gifts" for him too! you can use your own imagination for how that goes

bill just sortof becomes his cryptid friend, he wards off/kills any threats, they chill together, and eventually he starts curling up on fords bed to guard him while he sleeps.

not eeeeentirelyyyyy sure how the plot would go given the fact theres no villain or portal- but when the twins come to visit gravity falls for the summer, stan is there in addition to ford. bill hides himself from the kids for as long as he can while still watching over and protecting them from the nonsense (and also messing with them because hes a little shit) eventually they figure it out and bill becomes their creepy cryptid friend too

listen im a monster hugger at heart and the researcher/cryptid dynamic will never fail to melt me. somebody bully me into making art of this istg im going insane

I was talking a bit about this but I think part of the reason iterators are designed as these small little doll-like puppets is both to humanize and dehumanize them by the Ancients. The puppet, at is core, is a means for communication with a great biological machine- to give it a face and features and ground it as you ask its advice or it's progress. This massive, world-altering creation simplified down to this little thing that had all the features of a person. But its also small, cute, Ancient-like but clearly not an Ancient itself. They're colorful and simple, like a toy for children. And I think thats largely how Ancients saw them- often not as a person with desires and opinions but as an extension of the Ancient's work, a personalized character that represented their cities and people, whos citizens could like them and were comprehensible to their children, but was not them- and would not reap the reward of being them when a solution was found. Each one pretty and unique to make them individuals, but not seen- truly- as individuals by many- just as parts of their cities, something under the Ancients. Like if every town had its own personal My Little Pony they could ask advice on where the next community center should be built.

even if gortash is capable of love/empathy/seeing another as an equal, (highly debatable) this would come as a huge shock to him and he would fight it with everything he has. someone he truly sees as equal (for example, the dark urge because of their divinity) is not going to be treated “better” than anyone else.

being loved/seen as an equal by a man like gortash just means you’re his new favourite project. he will be continuously pushing all of your buttons and boundaries - partially out of scientific curiosity, seeing you as no more than a test subject, like seeing how you react to certain stimuli, and partially to knock you down a peg so he can go back to seeing you as lesser/disposable because it’s simpler for him than having feelings. and if that doesn’t work, it’s not suddenly getting better. because his next step would simply be to figuring out how to keep you by his side no matter the cost through heavy manipulation and removal of all of your other ties so he’s the centre of your world, fully dependent on him.

also being “the only one gortash can be himself around” means seeing the absolute nightmare of a person he is under all those masks, not “this tyrant secretly loves cuddles 🥰”

What if that’s the punishment? Becoming the egg? We’ve seen tiny glimpses of the mod’s mc skins. What if they became eggs? What if they were on the island first? I swear something in the server talked abt an experiment; maybe this is it? The consequences?? Does this mean the other egg parents are going to become eggs when theirs eventually pass away? When will the remaining players realize the amount of them are dwindling and yet there are so many eggs? You become an egg, what does that feel like? Is it painful? Are you becoming a monster, or a child or something entirely different??? Are they still coherent? Do they know what's happening to them anymore????

Enough about kolob, enough about cain/Bigfoot, enough about secret languages and creepy occult shit that sure, might be believed in flds cults down in the south of the state but that aren’t that relevant to wider church culture. The only similar thing that should be talked about is polygamy, and not in a "oh those crazy mormons i bet they all still do it hardehar har" but in a way that reminds everyone that the founders of this religion were horrible men and the whole thing has been sexist from the very beginning,

lets talk about soaking, about repression, about feeling trapped and making what seems like the biggest decision of your life at eight years old, even when you all know its not really your choice. lets talk about how impossible it is to be rude, when rudeness is considered saying no to anyone or not talking to people who make you uncomfortable. lets talk about the racist and colonialist foundations of the church, how no one will say it but technically yes our children are taught that native americans are the descendants of the evil race who killed all of our heroes. lets talk about missions as a tool of colonization and power and how they're not only a way to beat down the young people who go on them to solidify the idea that the world hates them and only the church is safe, but also to assimilate and collect money from people all over the world. lets talk about all the shit that makes this religion a horrible oppressive environment to grow up in, the way that afab people are taught from like three years old that one day they will grow up to be mothers, and everything else that i cant type all of because its really just a whole horrible culture of fear and shame packed into beige carpeted walls and squeaky gym floors.

tldr, the stuff that makes Mormonism bad isnt that different than any other religion, its mostly sexism racism homophobia and transphobia, and of course the terror of polite manners and the implications thereof.
